Thomas
has been sponsored through a local pastor for a number of years and recently completed his Grade 7 exams. These are exams at the end of Primary school and Thomas achieved 1's in all of his subjects (this would be the equivalent of Grade A/8 in United Kingdom SAT scores). Due to the increased costs of the secondary school, the Pastor is unable to continue funding Thomas' education and the school asked if Friends of Mutake School could step in and support him. We have been able to find three sponsors who each pay £5 per month to ensure that his dream of becoming an engineer are realised.

Oscar
has received sponsorship through Friends of Mutake School for a number of years and transitioned to secondary school in 2020. He is now in Form 2 and continues to do well in his studies. When he came to the attention of Friends of Mutake School, Oscar was having to walk the 6 kilometres to school each day and home again. As well as funding his school fees, we bought a bicycle for Oscar to use and he now finds it easier to get to school and is thriving in his studies.

Adam
came to the attention of our lead trustee when she was visiting the school one year. He had very sore eyes. Yolanda spoke with a Doctor at The Eye Institute in Harare who generously gave us his time, Dr Mhiza discovered that Adam had developed a reaction to the antiretroviral drugs that Adam was taking for his HIV diagnosis. Unfortunately the damage was irreversible but under the continued care of Dr Mhiza and medication which is funded through AidAfrica, he is able to live pain free and continue with his education. When Adam finishes school, he hopes to start a poultry project.

Sally
was attending Mutake Primary school but was not communicating with her teachers or peers. Her grandmother, with whom she lives, expressed a worry that she also did not communicate with her either. The Friends of Mutake School team arranged an appointment with the Deaf Zimbabwe Trust and she was diagnosed as Deaf. We identified a school who could meet her needs. Due to the increased costs we put in an application to The Oak Trust, a grant making organisation in order to fund her placement at the new school. They provided half of the costs but due to this, another funder was comfortably able to meet the other half and she has received the foundation for a full year at a school where she will learn sign language and other communication methods that will aid her through life. We are very grateful for both the trust and the individual sponsor who have provided Sally with this life changing intervention.
